    Collapse overview
Dr. Don Mabbott is a Senior Scientist in the Research Institute, and the Program Head, Neurosciences & Mental Health the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute. He is also a Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Alberta and then completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology at the Hospital for Sick Children. He returned to the Hospital for Sick Children after working at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta for a while following his fellowship. Dr. Mabbott provides clinical neuropsychology services to children with brain tumours and their families. In his research he uses brain imaging and psychological tests to study the impact of brain injury on how the brain grows and develops in childhood. Dr. Mabbott’s work has been instrumental in documenting the thinking and learning problems children and adolescents treated for brain tumours experience, and the underlying damage to brain structure and function that cause these problems. He is now conducting exciting new work to find ways to foster brain repair and cognitive recovery following acquired brain injury in children, including harnessing neuroplasticity from physical exercise and employing drugs that stimulate the growth of new brain cells.
