Overview Dr. Jamie Hutchison is a Staff Physician, with a special focus on Neurocritical Care, and Director of Research in the Department of Critical Care at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is also a Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Scientist in the Institute for Medical Science at the University of Toronto and Senior Scientist in the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Program at SickKids. His research focus is neuroprotection, and the discovery of biomarkers, in severe brain injuries and his laboratory is focused on mechanisms of neuroinflammation and cell death. He was the lead investigator in the largest multi-center randomized controlled trial of a potential neuroprotective (hypothermia) therapy in children with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2008. Most recently Dr. Hutchison and his collaborators have discovered novel electrophysiologic, molecular and imaging biomarkers of prognosis in children with TBI. He is currently the principal investigator of “A National Biobank and Database for Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (CanTBI)” funded by a Platform Support Grant from Brain Canada with funding partners from Vancouver to Halifax. He is Co-Chair (with Dr. Alexis Turgeon) of the Canadian Traumatic Brain Injury Research Consortium and past chair of the Canadian Critical Care Translational Biology Group both of which have core funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and partners. Dr. Hutchison has trained and mentored many clinical and research trainees over the years many of whom have developed their own successful research programs.
